Natural Finish for Bathroom Vanity
Failing to find a finish I would be satisfied with, I did some research and decided to give it a go myself. I took off on an exciting road of producing home made eco friendly ebonising stain!
I soaked some steel wool in white wine vinegar over a couple of days, until the rusty colour appeared. Then tested it for reaction with the wood. Creating initial samples was truly fascinating and produced beautiful effects. Though as the solution reacted with natural oak tanins, the finish differed on various batches of veneer. It took some loving patience, even on a single sheet of veneer applied to the fronts, to achieve an even finish. But depth of the colour was definitely worth it! The final protective coat of natural shellac and wax gave very subtle and pleasant luster reminiscent of antique furniture .
